Saigon Saigon

A design minded budget driven client wanted to expand their established Vietnamese restaurant in Glebe from a 60 seat family run restaurant to a 180 seat restaurant without losing the intimate dining experience that their existing patrons returned for on a regular basis. To retain the Vietnamese authenticity the client wanted to source materials from Vietnam where possible. This allowed us to undertake a trip to Ho Chi Minh city sourcing various Bamboo, metal and timber products for the fit-out.

The use of 'red' traditionally associated with Asian restaurants was applied to all walls and ceilings, being a colour that actually enhances human metabolism and increases appetite seemed the logical choice.

A custom designed metal screen fabricated in Vietnam forms the centre piece of the restaurant and the simple repetition of forms such as the Non la (Vietnamese hats) on the walls and lanterns from the ceiling provide drama within the space.
