The Mark Apartment - Rushcutters Bay

This apartment in Sydney's Rushcutters Bay is located within the listed art deco building 'The Mark'.

The owners had searched 3 years for a classic New York Style art deco apartment of grand proportions with high ceilings. They were therefore keen to retain the original character of the apartment with a view to a sympathetic renovation that linked the spaces further to suit their lifestyle and maximise natural light.

In response to the brief the original layout of the apartment was sympathetically reconfigured , 2 small rooms were amalgamated to form a larger kitchen area, windows were reconfigured and glass french doors added off the dining and kitchen.

A classic crisp white scheme was requested by the client to act as a back drop to their collection of antique and mid century modern furniture with consideration to future art acquisitions to add colour.

To balance the white scheme, add visual interest and texture, new architectural panelling, plaster moulding and traditional details including a fire place were added to the formal areas. The modern kitchen and bathroom were designed to reference the art deco period in a contemporary manner to achieve a seamless classic interior.

The end result is an elegant and eloquent design statement sympathetic to the art deco period with the amenity and natural light of a contemporary home.
